Yamin Kashmiri, Toronto
My name is Yamin Kashmiri. I am a retired professor diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) ten years ago. For a long time, I was in denial, believing that physical activity may delay if not halt the progress of this disease. When my current physical regimes were no longer able to delay the continued increase in PD medication dosage, I decided to try Bodhi Meditation.
I attended the 8.5 Day Health and Happiness Retreat in October, 2018 and joined the Energy Bagua Retreat in November, 2018. Over these two months of practice, I noticed significant positive changes.
One of the most troubling side effects of my PD medication is insomnia. Over the last six months prior to Bodhi Meditation, I was only averaging about three hours of sleep every night. By the second day of the 8.5 Day Health and Happiness Retreat, I was able to fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow and stay asleep, enjoying six solid hours of sleep every night.
My bladder control improved to the point where I no longer need to wake up four to five times every night to empty my bladder. At most I need to get up only twice a night and then I am able to fall back asleep readily.
My legs have gained strength, and I am enjoying increased balance and mobility, such that I am less reliant on the walking cane.
I also noticed that the slurring of speech that comes with PD has diminished significantly. Others can understand me more clearly when I speak and I no longer need to keep repeating what I say.
I am very pleased with these positive changes!
